Chapter Thirteen – Kyle

She was incredible. Passionate, loving, and beautiful. Last night had been the most intense sex of my life, that is, until this last time. The vulnerability and trust in her expressive and gorgeous light green eyes had blown me away, I already cared for her far more than seemed sane. I just wished she could see it in herself.

One step at a time. I didn’t want to move too fast, but I wasn’t going to hesitate either.

She pulled back her magic, and I pulled back mine. I was a little disappointed, but it probably wasn’t normal to be connected all the time. No more than I could stay buried inside her all the time.

She bit her lip, “I made a decision.”

I smiled, mostly because her eyes were smiling, and she looked as awed as I felt.

“What’s that?”

She said, “You’re deluded, but I’ll keep you until you come to your senses, and I’m pretty much yours.”

I smirked, “You know we’re immortal right?”

She tilted her head, “What’s your point?”

I grinned, “It’s going to be an awfully long wait.”

She giggled, it was a shockingly sweet and musical sound. I wanted to hear it again.

Her stomach gurgled.

I kissed her softly, and then crawled backwards off the bed, pausing long enough to kiss her flat toned stomach.

“Lunch?”

She nodded in agreement, “Shower?”

I nodded, “Do you have to go to the diner?”

She shrugged, “I should, I’m already a couple of hours late, but they’d have sent for me if they needed me.”

I took her hand and headed for the bathroom.

“We can eat there then?”

She nodded, and then kissed me tenderly. It seemed like a good way to spend the time waiting for the water to heat up. It was also far more affectionate than she’d been before, the only other kisses she’d initiated had all been hungry. Her story had been ugly, but even if what I’d said had failed to make her believe the truth about herself, she at least seemed to have opened up to me even more.

Even if she thought I was a naïve idiot. Nice apparently, but still an idiot. I could live with that, I thought she was a sweet fool, who was confused into believing she’d still enjoy causing pain, by her horror and guilt. It would take a long time for her to truly work her way past it, but then we had plenty of time.

After our shower, we got dressed again by following the trail of clothes back to the front door, and then we headed to the diner.

Katherine smirked knowingly, and tapped her wrist when we walked in, which made me blush. I hadn’t really met her yet, but at least she hadn’t been part of the fight yesterday evening. Which was good, because she looked like she was in the third trimester of pregnancy.

She pulled out a phone, and then typed a quick message before coming over and sitting next to Lavender.

“Took a while for the crops today?”

Lavender giggled, “Something like that.”

Katherine’s eyes widened, and the fire mage smiled at Lavender, then looked at me.
